![]() University of California, Los Angeles Requisition Number: 29631 Salary: $21.18 - $27.47 hourly Position Description: Under the general direction of the Music Library Access Services Lead, the Music Access Services Assistant (MASA), performs all Music Library operations and assists with supervising student employees. Major duties include circulation desk activities, assisting with the hiring, supervision and training of student employees (4.5 FTE student employees); public service; audio and print reserves processing; handling billing questions; stacks and item record maintenance; library card issuance; serving as the building contact for user complaints and safety and security issues; and basic technical processing. Responsible for supervising the department and ensuring all access and public service functions are efficiently performed and coordinated in the absence of the Access Services Lead. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be assigned to cover for staff shortages during those hours. Assists in the library's efforts to connect with patrons through various official UCLA Library web and social media outlets in order to promote and provide library services, foster a sense of community, and to resolve problems. The Music Library is provides access to one of the largest academic music collections in North America and the largest in Southern California. Supporting the Herb Alpert School of Music, general subject areas include western classical music, jazz, popular music, and world music history, criticism, education, and performance. Staffing currently includes 2.0 FTE professional librarian, 3.0 FTE support staff, and (5 FTE) student assistants. The library subscribes to almost every major online resource for music covering databases, e-books, and online audio. With approximately 80,000 books, 115,000 scores, over 100 journal subscriptions, almost 200,000 sound recordings in a variety of formats, as well as visual media and an exhaustive collection of facsimiles of music scores, the resources for music research and study span all genres of music from ancient times to today: all the music of the world. The Music Library provides reference assistance in all of its subject areas; provides instructional services to faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates; and develops subject guides and other web and print resources in support of library instruction. The library's Media Room contains 'Studio A' a media maker space, and also provides computer workstations that provide access to the web, interactive multimedia products, and music notation software.
