Upper School Assistant Technical Director Harvard-Westlake, a coed, independent school in Los Angeles serving nearly 1600 students in grades 7-12, seeks to hire an exceptional and highly qualified assistant technical director for a full-time position on the upper school campus. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated knowledge of skills in theatrical productions, sound and light design, and demonstrated understanding of the creation and technical support of the various special events and functions within a school community. Candidates should be able to work calmly and steadily in myriad of important and high-pressure situations. From theatrical productions, live music and dance shows, to assemblies featuring prominent guest speakers, versatility is a core component of this position. Comfort working with students, teachers, and teams of highly creative individuals and the ability to adapt to an ever-changing workload is critical. Qualifications: • Minimum—Bachelor’s degree in Technical Theater or a related field. Approximately 5 year’s professional experience working in production; • Flexibility and availability for after-school, early morning, and weekend commitments; • Demonstrated collegiality, collaboration, teamwork, and organization; • Experience with the ever changing technology of varying sound and lighting platforms including but not limited to: The Yamaha M7, Behringer X-Air and X-32 mixing consoles and related wired and wireless vocal and instrumental microphones; DMX systems lighting systems such as The ETC: ION-1000; Black Magic video switchers or related video switchboards; Box Office software and management i.e. Seat Advisor or Brown Paper Tickets; A working knowledge of a CAD based software i.e. AutoCAD or Vectorworoks; A working knowledge of Projection systems and the many esoteric cables and adapters; • Zeal for working with adolescents of all skill levels and patience to teach and coach them in all areas of technical theater; • Enthusiasm to become part of our vibrant school community, broadly engaging with students and colleagues, and attending events outside of their field of responsibility. This position is full-time, starting in August for the 2019-20 school year.
