Under general direction, the Dance Department Principal Musician is responsible for preparing repertoire and/or composing and improvising accompaniment in a variety of musical styles and complexity in an educational and classroom setting. Incumbent sight reads and primarily plays written musical scores for all levels of ballet, jazz, and modern dance on the piano. Collaborate and consult with faculty and artistic directors on their projects and productions, determine the musical needs for productions and be the department's expert on musical matters and activities. The Principal Musician maintains musical scores, instruments, equipment, and recording files. Oversees, trains and coordinates the schedules of other accompanists, ensures they complete required university training, and controls labors costs in consultation with the Department Manager.

Salary: Commensurate with experience Total Hours: 8-5, M-F Career Position. This is a 10 month career position which furloughs July and August each year.
