Assistant Technical Director provides support in all technical aspects of 75 – 125+ diverse programs/productions per year, which include musicals, dance shows, operas, plays, lectures, films and seminars. Offers technical support and advice to management and to users of the Sottile Theatre including professional touring companies, local, regional, and campus groups. Assists in the maintenance of theatrical equipment and systems. Serves as the Technical Director in her/his absence. Coordinates proper upkeep, functionality and safety of the Theatre.
High School diploma and a minimum of two years directly related experience or additional education in technical theatre, stage lighting, sound engineering, rigging, or other related area. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Supervisory experience preferred. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Working knowledge of theatrical rigging systems and operations. Thorough knowledge of scenic carpentry tools and construction of set pieces. Working knowledge of chain motor operations and maintenance. Should be able to operate and program an ETC lighting console, a Midas M32 sound board or a similar digital sound board. Must be able to hang and focus lighting instruments and program lighting cues. Must be able to set up sound equipment, including microphones, speakers and monitors, and the patching in of recording and video equipment. Must be able to install a Marley dance floor. Should have experience with projection and video equipment and knowledge of equipment maintenance.
