The Columbus Association for the Performing Arts (CAPA) seeks a full-time Community Engagement and Business Development Manager to develop, execute, and evaluate the CSO’s Community Engagement program. In addition, this position if responsible for developing new business opportunities for the Columbus Symphony that results in earned revenue. This position requires a high level of coordination both inside and outside the organization to ensure successful implementation of programs and achievement of goals. The candidate for this position will be an employee of CAPA, however they will dedicate 100% of their time to the Columbus Symphony.
Duties and Responsibilities
Oversees strategy and execution of the Columbus Symphony Community Engagement and Columbus Symphony Cares programs.
Maximizes and quantifies impact of financial resources of community engagement activities within engagement funds parameters.
Designs, implements and schedules programming in coordination with community and civic organizations, government, venues, and Columbus Symphony Cares social service partners.
Ensures programming and musician community engagement services fall within budgetary parameters set in collaboration with Executive Director.
Maintains list of community engagements, partner organizations and contacts, and personnel.
Disseminates musician hiring needs for community engagement events, sold performances and small ensembles to senior director of production, librarians and assistant personnel manager, as applicable.
New Business Development
Strategically researches, networks and develops performance opportunities that enhance the bottom line for the institution, for instance run-outs, sold performances, tours, etc.
Oversees, designs, and executes group sales program in partnership with the Vice President of Marketing.
Presents, promotes, and sells Columbus Symphony product to existing and prospective customers.
Achieves revenue goals and outcomes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to prioritize tasks in an environment of competing deadlines and constituencies.
Entrepreneurial spirit and ability to develop new initiatives outside industry standards.
Ability to exercise discretion, tact, sensitivity and diplomacy in interpersonal relationships among multiple constituencies.
Ability to “sell” the Symphony to diverse constituencies.
Knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Office with high proficiency in Excel.
Ability to read music and decipher orchestral instrumentation preferred.
Credentials and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in music, arts administration, or related field.
Minimum of 3 years management experience in orchestral role.
Experience cultivating successful community relationships and partnerships.
Requires flexibility of schedule to accommodate needs of the organization that often include evening and weekend events.
