Elon University’s Department of Performing Arts is seeking a full-time permanent Assistant Professor of Music Theatre, with a specialty in music theatre dance and choreography, beginning mid-August 2020. Track and compensation to be determined based on candidate’s experience and education.
Requirements include a demonstrated ability to choreograph musicals and teach a variety of levels and styles of music theatre dance at a professional level; evidence of professional activity in the area of music theatre at the regional, national, and/or international level; and an ongoing plan and interest in furthering the field of music theatre through innovative research and/or other creative activities. A terminal degree in an applicable field is preferred; however, a non-terminal master’s degree with significant professional experience will be considered. The ability to stage direct musicals is a plus.
Primary teaching responsibilities will be courses in a variety of levels and styles of music theatre dance and choreographing department productions. Other courses taught will reflect the successful candidate’s additional areas of expertise in music theatre and the Elon Core Curriculum. Stage direction of musical productions is also a possibility.
