Phoenix Country Day School is seeking a full-time faculty member in the area of Upper School Visual & Media Arts for the 2020-2021 school year. The position requires the ability to teach both entry and advanced-level courses in 4D or time-based media, i.e., courses entitled Coding as Art (generative media, computational media, interactive art) 1 & 2, Sound Design (or Music Technology & Production) 1 & 2, Game Design (board and/or video games), and Physical Computing (interactive installation art, electronic art, time-based sculptures, sensors, microcontrollers and integration of multi-sensory feedback). Other teaching responsibilities include preparing students for our annual Arts Walk in May and one or two smaller shows throughout the year. In addition to teaching 4-5 sections, full-time faculty members serve as advisors to groups of 8-10 students. A successful candidate will have experience teaching computational art (involving computer programming with an arts focus, such as Processing, Max/MSP, PureData, Arduino, Unity3D or similar) and audio technology (Logic Pro, mixing and editing, studio recording techniques, live sound reinforcement, Ableton Live or similar) in an academic or performance-based environment, preferably at the secondary school level. A successful candidate will be enthusiastic about collaborating with colleagues both within and across departments.
