The Department of Theatre within The School of Music, Theatre and Dance at Oakland University is seeking an artist/educator for a Visiting Assistant Professor in Costume Design. The successful candidate must be dedicated to teaching students in a rigorous BFA setting and to positive collaboration with fellow artists/faculty within an integrated department and school. We are also looking for someone who brings creative teaching solutions for in-person and hybrid courses, while being able to respond with flexibility to the possibility of the Covid pandemic returning us to remote/online education. Possible courses for the 20/21 academic year include Costume History, Stage Make-up, Costume Construction and Essentials of Design. Responsibilities will also include designing costumes for one outdoor spring production and advising undergraduate costume designers and make-up designers for 4 mainstage productions. All faculty are expected to help foster the transition of graduating students to the professional world, and special attention will be given to candidates with strong ideas for early career opportunities. Finally, candidates must demonstrate experience with or a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications: MFA in Theatre (costume design) or comparable degree, plus professional experience; or a master's degree or BFA with extensive professional experience. University teaching experience or the ability to demonstrate potential teaching effectiveness.
