![]() Webster University Position Number: F0189 Job Description Summary: The Conservatory of Theatre Arts at Webster University in Saint Louis, Missouri, invites applications for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor of Lighting Design. The Lighting Design program at Webster provides some of the most exciting opportunities the Conservatory has to offer. We are seeking a highly collaborative colleague with a dedication to training aspiring theatre designers and practitioners in a demanding, undergraduate, professional training program. Primary responsibilities include teaching all units in the lighting design program within a four- year curriculum, participating in the day-to-day activities of the department, academic advising, student recruitment, and mentoring activities for Conservatory productions. The Assistant Professor of Lighting Design will oversee a curriculum that includes: Light Plots Drafting Fundamentals of Lighting Vectorworks Lighting Design I and II AutoCAD Lighting Design Seminar Each academic year, the Conservatory produces: A series of skills units, build a foundation to be practiced, and applied, in our rigorous production season. Experiential learning is an important component of all training. Mentoring student lighting designers in numerous productions is an essential part of this role as well. The successful applicant is expected to remain active in the field as a professional artist and the department will work with them to balance this work with teaching, advising, and mentoring. Minimum Qualifications M.F.A or commensurate professional experience required; significant teaching experience required including remote teaching experience. A minimum of three years national/regional professional experience, college-level teaching experience, and the strong potential for continuing creative activities. Required Technical Skills Light Plot Drafting Vectorworks Grand MA and Whole Hog programming ETC console programming Preferred Qualifications Preferred Technical Skills d3 programming AutoCAD 3D drafting Projection Photoshop Revit The successful candidate will also have a solid grounding in collaborative design, designer graphics, current technologies, as well as familiarity with concert and projection design.
