The Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School is seeking a costumer for its high school and middle school musicals.
The costumer will:
Provide costumes for the high school and middle school musicals through a combination of purchased or rented items, repurposed items from our costume room, and student outfits brought in from home
Teach actors how to maintain costumes, and teach stage crew members how to inventory costumes and handle costume emergencies
Ensure the measuring and fitting of actors, the labeling of costumes, and the cleaning, mending, and alteration of costumes as necessary
Be mindful of the costuming budget
The duration of this position runs September 1, 2021 - April 4, 2022.Â The high school musical opens December 9, 2021 and the middle school musical opens March 24, 2022.Â The position reports to the Director of Arts Education.Â Stipend is $1500.
Experience working with students desired but not required
Prior experience with costuming a full production preferred; ability to sew required
BA required or equivalent
Must be able to perform physical activities such as lifting sewing equipment and costumes, bending, standing, and walking.Â Must be able to safely use sewing equipment commonly used in the production of theatrical costumes

While on campus, classes may be operating either in person or in an alternative setting. Teachers are expected to be present and accessible for the entire school day (contracted hours), regardless of the setting.
