A global destination for artists and arts enthusiasts, Interlochen Center for the Arts nurtures creativity through five dynamic platforms: Interlochen Arts Camp, the renowned summer arts program; Interlochen Arts Academy, the nation’s premier fine arts boarding high school; Interlochen Presents, a producer of more than 600 annual performances by internationally celebrated guest artists, Interlochen students, and faculty; Interlochen Public Radio, two listener-supported, 24-hour public radio stations (classical music and news); and Interlochen College of Creative Arts, a convener for lifelong learning in the arts.
The Filmmaker-in-Residence (FIR) is a semester-long full-time position teaching secondary students in the Film and New Media Division. When not teaching and advising students, the Filmmaker-in-Residence to work on their own film projects/pilots and will have use of student talent, equipment and film school facilities.
Teach three sections of a cinematic arts course in two in critical analysis and/or script analysis and a directing themed class developed in conjunction with the director of Film and New Media
Advise students in story development and other topics in cinema, screenwriting and portfolio development as well as thesis advisement
Attend departmental faculty meetings, film screenings and other student performances and events
Ongoing mentoring and advisement of student work
Conduct ongoing, scheduled tutorials with students
Attend regular meetings, daytime/evening rehearsals, casting and location productions
Some teaching experience required or significant experience mentoring students in a creative environment required
Bachelor’s degree required, MFA preferred
Applicants must have an in-depth understanding of visual storytelling from the point of view of the director or producer, creating in a variety of media.
Cinema production, knowledge of production management and post-production workflow with the Adobe Suite of software, Premiere Pro and a variety ofcamera formats required
Knowledge of post-effects script analysis and beat breakdown required.
