Meredith College invites teacher/scholars who are actively engaged in advancing equity and inclusion in their research, teaching, and/or service for the position of Assistant Professor of Music, a tenure-track position beginning Fall 2022.
As Director of Choral Activities, the successful candidate will serve as program administrator and will conduct the college's three choral ensembles. The DCA will participate in recruitment activities in collaboration with the Director of Instrumental Activities and other music faculty.
As Coordinator of Music Education, the candidate will advise music education students and teach music education classes, including Secondary Choral Methods, Conducting, Conducting Workshop, and Elementary Methods and Materials. The Coordinator also serves as a liaison to the Meredith Education Department, arranges observation and student teaching placements, and supervises student teachers. The coordinator will establish and maintain a strong positive rapport with public school directors in the state and region.
Additional teaching assignments may be made in accordance with the successful candidate’s expertise. In addition to instructional assignments, all music faculty are expected to be productive as scholars/artists and to engage in departmental, college, and professional service.
Meredith offers a B.A. in Music, a B.M. in Performance (beginning Fall 2022), and a B.M. in Music Education.
Doctorate in a relevant field required for tenure and promotion. Strong preference for doctoral degree by August 2022; ABD candidates will be considered. Evidence of successful conducting and recruiting at the college level is also required. The successful candidate must have a background in choral music education/pedagogy or public school teaching and a current K-12 teaching license. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to implementing the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion in all areas of one’s practice, and can collaborate with the faculty in developing music curriculum relevant to the needs of twenty-first century musicians.
