Job Purposes::
The successful candidate will teach Jazz, Contemporary or Commercial Jazz, and Theatre Dance Styles. Courses include dance classes for the BFA Dance Majors and Minors and BFA Musical Theatre Majors. In addition, this candidate will choreograph for the Spring Dance Concert and one Mainstage Musical per year, and will advise dance students and direct/supervise the Emerging Choreographers Concert.
Required Qualifications::
MFA in Dance or professional equivalency. Evidence of teaching in undergraduate dance programs. Ability to teach various jazz styles, choreography and theatre dance. Possess a dedication to collaboration within our department and college. Experience choreographing both concert dance and musical theatre dance. Experience supporting and/or mentoring emerging artists in the classroom and the field.
Preferred Qualifications::
Ability to teach Dance Composition and/or Improvisation. Ability to teach nonwestern styles of dance. Experience in curriculum development. Demonstrated interest in contributing to the evolution of dance curriculum in higher education. Expertise in one or more of the following areas; Dunham technique, Tap, Hip-Hop, African, African-diasporic, and/or African American dance.
Essential Functions and percent of time::
60% Teaching classes, advising and supervising student Dance majors and minors.
30% Choreography for 1 musical and for Spring Dance Concert
10% Service for department and university including recruiting
Working Conditions::
Position is for one year and is renewable. Special contract terms and conditions of employment apply.
