Greenville University is seeking a dynamic professor to teach in the Music department on behalf of the Commercial Performance, Audio Engineering, Worship Arts, and Music Education (minor) degree programs. The degrees cover a wide range of areas within the field of music so a faculty member with a wide breadth of professional skills and experiences is important.

Essential Qualifications: 

• A Master’s degree in a related field of teaching
• Applied skills and comprehension of commercial-related music
• Has teaching or professional experience in one of the following areas: Applied Keyboard, Keyboard Classes, Ensemble Directing, Studio Recording, Live Audio/Lighting, working with a Recording Label 

Preferred Qualifications: 

• A doctorate degree in a related field of teaching as well as significant professional experience
• Proficient in Pro Tools, Logic, and other current music technology
• Familiar with Finale/Sibelius, Ableton, Auralia, Adobe Photoshop, Indesign, video editing software. 
• Related skills can include teaching Commercial Music Theory/Ear Training, Commercial Arranging and Songwriting
• Vocal experience 
• Applied skills and comprehension of black gospel and jazz music
• Is experienced with teaching in a studio or classroom setting.
• Training and experience in online coursework 
• Innovative technology skills and experience relevant to teaching
• Experience working with teams in collaborative manner 
• Is ideally familiar with learning management systems (web-based course management, such as D2L or Blackboard).      
• Music ministry or service-oriented experience

Key Responsibilities: 

• Full-time faculty teaching load is 12-13 credit hours per semester (max 26 per academic year)
• Primary area of teaching is applied Piano/Keyboard, Keyboard classes, a Commercial Ensemble
• Develop commercial keyboard curriculum for lessons at all levels. Oversee keyboard assessment through juries and senior recitals/senior concerts
• Depending on the skills and experience of the candidate, additional areas of teaching will involve Studio Recording, Commercial Producing & Arranging, Live Audio, Projects in Music industry, Music technology, additional applied instruction (such as Guitar, Bass, Drums, Brass, Woodwinds) Commercial Music Theory, Songwriting, Music Business, Popular Music History
• Manage courses in D2L, our learning management system
• Other responsibilities include assisting in recruitment of students, student mentoring and academic advisement, school planning, and regular participation in institutional committee work.

The Greenville University music department has a rich history that includes nearly a century long choral program. GU offered the very first CCM (Contemporary Christian Music) degree in the nation in the late 1980s and continues to take pride in our innovative music programs. In 2012 we launched our Worship Arts degree program which continues to train worship leaders and maintain a high job placement. Our Commercial Performance and Audio Engineering degree programs are also highly innovative, training students in the areas of studio recording, audio post-production/game audio design, live sound/lighting, commercial performance, and songwriting. We offer numerous ensembles, including Fusion (commercial music), Lab Band (original rock groups), Pursuit worship bands, Gospel Choir, Jazz Band, GU Choir, Concert Band, and Marching Band. Greenville University has launched several renowned bands, artists and audio/recording engineers. The majority of our focus relates to commercial music application.
