Position Description
Saint Mary’s Hall seeks an outstanding Assistant Technical Director to support school operations and Fine Arts Department productions.
Responsibilities
- To support the Technical Director in all technical aspects of creating and presenting Fine Arts performances
- To assist in Upper School Technical Theater classes
- To work sound, lighting, and/or backstage for productions and events
- To design for theater productions and musicals, according to areas of expertise
- To assist in the upkeep and organization of all off stage spaces including scene shop, storage areas, dressing rooms, etc.
- To work in a collegial and supportive partnership with faculty, staff and administration.
- To attend staff meetings, parent meetings, and any special meeting(s) requested by the administration, as well as school and department events
- To attend conferences and other professional development opportunities to ensure that practices remain current
- To protect the privacy and working environment with students at all times
- To assist with other projects, programs, and planning as assigned by the Administration
- To understand and exhibit a professional manner at all times including after-school and weekend functions
Qualifications
- Working knowledge of all aspects of technical theater including lighting, sound, and scenic construction is required
- Experience in theater design is required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Theater, Theater Design, or a related field is preferred
- Costume design experience a plus
- Student-centered, collaborative, and transparent professional who is accessible to students, parents, and colleagues, is adept at building relationships, and supports Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in practice
- Academic leader with extraordinarily high expectations of themselves and the ability to inspire and motivate others

Dynamic New Leadership
Len Miller joined Saint Mary’s Hall as the 25th Head of School in July of 2020. Len comes to San Antonio after a 25-year career in independent schools. He served previously at some of our nation’s top schools, including The Hill School, The Lawrenceville School, and The Shipley School. His tenure has been hallmarked by a deep commitment to the quality of the academic program, the student experience, and the long-term sustainability and growth of the institution. He has been at the forefront of developing innovative academic programs and recruiting and retaining dynamic teachers. Robust, intentional, student wellness programs are the result of his collaborative leadership.
Len’s forward-thinking efforts in strategic planning, enrollment, advancement, and fiscal matters have underpinned the overall strength and quality of the schools he has served. As a leader, he strives to empower his leadership team to build programs, effect change, and make significant and meaningful impacts on the students, faculty, staff, and School culture. Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Work in a classroom environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
- Repetative bending, stooping, and squatting
- May occasionally climb ladders and perform overhead reaching
- Be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Use of fine motor skills to operate sound and lighting technical equipment
- May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time
- Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled environment
- Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
