Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama invites you to apply for a full year appointment as a Special Visiting Faculty in Acting.

This position is open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents. It will be necessary for you to be in residence in Pittsburgh, PA, for the academic year. Position term: August 2022- May 2023.

The candidate is asked to describe how their professional experience, teaching experience, and/or education background prepares them for this position.
In this role, you will:

• Teach undergraduate students in Acting I, an introductory Acting class, including games, improvisation, and foundational terminology.
• Teach undergraduate students in Acting II, an intermediate contemporary scene study class.
• Teach undergraduate class in Acting III, an advanced scene study class that identifies and explores diverse cultures in theater through research and scene study of contemporary plays.
• Teach Acting for Non-Majors, an introductory acting class
• Attend faculty meetings in the Acting/Music Theater Option as well as the greater School of Drama and Carnegie Mellon University community.
• Serve as an advisor/acting coach for productions within the School of Drama.
• Support the School's ongoing efforts towards anti-racism and anti-oppression.
• Take part in the daily life and culture of the school.
• Be a positive and contributing member of a committed and collaborative faculty team.

• We expect an in-depth understanding of the acting fundamentals rooted in Stanislavski. In addition, it is hoped that the candidate's professional and teaching background will include a knowledge of various acting techniques.
• A comprehensive grounding in plays, with an emphasis on contemporary and new works, is sought and an understanding of the current trends in the theater as well as experience in the professional world are crucial.
• The ideal candidate would possess adaptability to work within the current curriculum while also offering your own methods.
• Additional expertise or experience in another area such as acting for the camera, heightened language, movement, etc., is welcomed.
• Familiarity with musical theater, and its multiple disciplines, is a plus.
