Posting Number: F220142
The Department of Information Science in the Graduate School of Education, University at Buffalo, the State University of New York (SUNY) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to start in Fall 2023. The department has a long history of research excellence and innovative teaching. We value collaboration and collegiality in all our endeavors and are committed to advancing the knowledge and application of the field towards information justice and equity, social responsibility and responsiveness, and critical librarianship and information science. We strive to create a learning environment where our students can examine questions of equity, diversity and inclusion in response to current and critical issues facing the field through our programs: an ALA-accredited MS in Information and Library Science, an MS in School Librarianship, an Advanced Studies Certificate, and a Ph.D. in Information Science.
Our department is particularly interested in expanding its expertise in emerging and critical scholarship that directly addresses information science and its intersection with social issues and the public good. More specifically, we seek an outstanding scholar whose research and teaching focus on the ways information science connects with issues of race, gender, poverty, culture, society, and technology.
We are looking for a colleague who will contribute to the department in at least one of the following areas:
Multicultural information ethics and policy (e.g., digital divide; information access, moderating hate speech)
Equity and health informatics (e.g., disparities in health care for minoritized populations)
Inclusive data science and/or data management (e.g., algorithmic bias; Indigenous knowledge organization)
Maintain an active and productive research agenda commensurate with Research 1 tenure-track faculty appointments
Seek external grant funding
Teach two courses per semester at the graduate level in the Information Science master's and Ph.D. programs
Advise Information Science master's and Ph.D. students
Participate in professional activities and serving on department, school, and university committees
The Department of Information Science's programs enjoy strong stakeholder support from the community and robust enrollment. In addition, we have collaborative agreements with the School of Law to offer a JD / MS in Information and Library Science, with the Department of Music to offer an MA (Music) / MS in Information and Library Science, and with the Department of English to offer two combined degree programs: BA in English / MS in Information and Library Science and BA in English / MS in School Librarianship.
