Job Description:
The Television, Radio & Film department seeks a faculty member to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in audio basics, audio storytelling, sound for picture, music underscoring and supervision, and music recording. The position requires substantive knowledge of the aesthetics and perceptual effects of sound; expertise in digital audio technologies and various consoles, control surfaces and DAWs, including Avid Pro Tools, Adobe Audition and Apple Logic Pro. This position has a start date of August 21, 2023.
The Newhouse School is looking to develop a vision of audio that connects across departments to multiple media platforms, applications and emerging technologies, including but not limited to XR, spatial and immersive audio. Interdisciplinary aptitude and significant professional experience are required.
The successful candidate must have experience in all aspects of audio workflow, from planning and production to post, as well as a clearly defined creative or research agenda related to audio and media. Advanced degree preferred. Previous teaching experience is highly desirable.
The successful candidate will need to show potential for conducting academic scholarship or industry-related creative activity/research that will position the hire as a recognized expert in the field. Participation in service and committee work for the department, the Newhouse School, and Syracuse University is expected.
