Position Summary:
Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Stage and Screen Arts Design, Technology, and Production
The University of Wisconsin-River Falls Music and Stage and Screen Arts Department invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of design, technology, and production for its innovative and growing Stage and Screen Arts program. The position is a nine-month tenure-track assistant professor faculty position, with a typical teaching load of twelve credits per semester, including reassignment time for production-related projects. Hours per week during the academic year will vary depending on teaching schedule, creative activities related to productions and performances, department and production meetings, office hours, and evening and weekend department rehearsals and events. This faculty member will teach courses in Visual Elements for Stage and Screen, Creating Artistic Environments for Stage and Screen, Design for Stage and Screen, Lighting and Sound for Stage and Screen, Production Management for Stage and Screen, Internships in Stage and Screen, Senior Capstone for Stage and Screen, and other courses in the person's areas of expertise. Faculty are expected to advise students, provide service to the department and university, and engage undergraduate students in research and creative activity. Our students and faculty benefit from the advantages of the comfortable, friendly, and scenic UWRF campus, all within close proximity to the excellent theatrical, musical, artistic, and cultural offerings of the diverse Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area, which is located less than 25 miles from campus. The appointment begins August 2023. Compensation is based on qualifications, including education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Required Qualifications
MFA or related terminal degree in stage (theatre) and/or screen (film) arts design, technology, production, or related fields.
Collegiate undergraduate teaching experience and interest in the assigned areas of instruction required.
Demonstrated professional experience in design, technology, and production for stage and screen.
Experience in facilities management and maintenance in stage and screen labs, studios, and performance spaces, including a knowledge of rigging systems and other technology systems utilized in production and performance spaces.
Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position, including the physical ability to work with and supervise students in all stage and screen arts production and performance spaces and also infrequently lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, stairs and catwalks.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in collaborations with music, stage and screen, and related performing arts programs.
Ability to develop updated curriculum and projects in stage and screen arts with an eye on new emerging technologies and forward-looking enhancements that will lead to expansion and growth in the program.
