Description:
Hofstra University is seeking a Shop Manager, Technical Director to work in the theatrical and academic facilities supporting production and classroom needs in the Hofstra College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (HCLAS). This position reports to and works closely with the Production Manager, Technical Director to maintain the shop, supervise student aides, and provides technical support for the productions of Faculty and Students in Dance, Music, and Theatre. In this role you will be responsible for technical direction for 2-4 productions per academic year, supervising scene shop for both show production and various class work, and production support for an active production/concert schedule. This is a 12 month position, days and times vary depending on production calendar during the academic year.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Provide technical supervision, engineering, construction, and planning assistance for main season performing arts productions.
Teaching responsibilities include 2-4 sections of play production lab and supervise, train, assess students in a mentoring capacity, providing experiential learning opportunities.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum BA/BFA with professional and/or university experience required.
Knowledge of standard practices and equipment in the areas of theatrical lighting, rigging, sound, and projection.
Demonstrated skill in theatrical carpentry.
Firm understanding of construction tools/equipment and safety.
Teaching experience in a liberal arts setting is desirable.
Must be able to lift or transport 15 lbs.
Availability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends for productions.
