East Carolina University's (ECU) Academic Library Services (ALS) seeks a First Year & Student Transitions Librarian to provide instruction, outreach, and support that connects library resources and services to the information needs and experiences of incoming first year students. The person in this position will be a liaison with various campus units that provide student services and will work collaboratively with staff in these units to identify the information literacy and other library-related needs of students in their first year of study at ECU, including transfer and student veterans. The librarian will develop and deliver programming—both remote and in-person, synchronous and asynchronous—to meet these needs. The person in this position will coordinate the library's involvement in the COAD 1000 program and first year composition courses, including outreach and curriculum. This person will be responsible for integrating High Impact Educational Practices into the department's work with Living Learning Communities, Writing Intensive classes, and University Studies. This person will create engaging tutorials and other web-based materials for these audiences. In addition, this person will provide tailored library instruction, research consultations, and assistance at the physical and virtual service desk.
The Research and Instructional Services (RIS) department supports faculty research and student learning at all levels and operates regular service desk hours 80 hours per week assisting students, including evenings, weekends, and selected holidays. RIS delivers more than 400 course-integrated library instruction sessions and 300 one-on-one research consultations annually. RIS coordinates the administration of library research guides and FAQs, embeds tutorials into faculty course management systems including Canvas, provides library orientation tours, and makes regular decisions to optimize the space and technology for student academic production throughout the first floor of Joyner Library. Organizationally, RIS is in the ALS Public Services division, which is composed of frontline departments such as Circulation/Interlibrary Loan, the Music Library, and the Teaching Resources Center. This position reports to the Assistant Director for Public Services. RIS is a department of ten employees, six EHRA faculty and four SHRA.
