Job Description Summary:
The Department of Theatre within The School of Music, Theatre, and Dance at Oakland University seeks a vibrant artist/educator for a Visiting Assistant Professor position in Production and Design. The successful candidate must be dedicated to teaching students in a rigorous BFA setting and to positive collaboration with fellow artists/faculty within an integrated department and school. Courses for instruction may include: Sound Design, Designers Portfolio, Advanced Design Projects, and potential Special Topics within the candidate's area of expertise. Responsibilities will also include designing for at least two production in our mainstage season, advising undergraduate designers and technicians on mainstage productions (2 musicals and 2 plays) and our touring children's show, as well as a variety of 2nd stage productions, particularly sound reinforcement for musicals in our intimate black box theatre. All faculty are expected to participate in committee work and to help foster the transition of graduating students to the professional world. University teaching experience or the ability to demonstrate potential teaching effectiveness is highly desired. Finally, candidates must demonstrate experience with or a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Minimum Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications: MFA in Theatre design or production or comparable degree, plus professional experience; or a master's degree or BFA with extensive professional experience. Demonstrated mature artistry in Sound Design and other design areas is preferred.
