Primary Purpose of the School The UNCG School of Theatre educates and trains students as professional artists in performance, design and technical production, theatre for youth, musical theatre, music direction, and theatre education. Our rigorous BA, BFA, and MFA programs produce exemplary theatre artists with the knowledge, skills, and vision to work professionally in the performing arts. Our annual production season typically includes four mainstage productions in the Taylor Theatre; three-to-four productions in the Pam and David Sprinkle Theatre, our studio black-box/arena theatre; and the spring regional tour of the North Carolina Theatre for Young People.
Our design and technical production faculty and staff provide extensive experience and training in scene, lighting, sound, and costume design including specialties in mask-making, welding, CAD design, and much more. The School of Theatre also offers training in theatre education, theatre for young people, theatrical intimacy, musical theatre and provides opportunities for developing skills in marketing, ticketing, and front of house operations.
As a member of numerous national theatre organizations, including USITT, SETC, TCG, and AATE, the School of Theatre offers a rigorous theoretical and practical education, along with valuable opportunities for students to network with theatre professionals and showcase their own work. Theatre students enjoy continuous opportunities to meet, learn from, and engage with leading industry professionals with guest artists. A range of professional workshops, masterclasses, presentations, and class visits keep our students abreast of the latest developments and techniques across the industry and further enhance their prospects for a wide range of careers.
Our students graduate well-equipped to embrace and create opportunities in performance and production in theatre, film, television, and other media—as actors, writers, directors, stage managers, designers, sound engineers—and business operations. Other students harness their passion for performance and learning to become teachers across all education levels, preparing the next generations of young artists and theatregoers.

The School of Theatre at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro invites applications for a 9-month, Visiting Assistant Professor of Lighting Design & Technology beginning August 1, 2023. This is a one-year position with the possibility of being extended for a second year.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in the teaching discipline or equivalent professional experience and demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
All degrees must be received from accredited institutions.
This position requires the ability to climb ladders and stairs, work at heights, and the ability to lift 50 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
MFA in Design and/or Technical Production
Experience teaching and supervising students in a theatrical setting at a collegiate level
Comprehensive knowledge of industry standard lighting techniques and equipment
Comprehensive knowledge of safety standards and other entertainment industry standards
Proficient in theatrical/entertainment lighting – including, DMX (networked and wireless), Intelligent Fixtures, digital lighting consoles
Experience with projection/media software and equipment
Proficient with repair and maintenance of lighting and audio equipment
Computer literacy (Vectorworks, Lightwright, MS Office, MS Outlook, MS Teams)
Proficient with counterweight stage rigging systems
Valid Driver’s license
Experience with ETC consoles, dimmers, networking systems,
