Position Announcement:
The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music seeks candidates for a faculty position as Manager of Audio. This position is a twelve-month, tenure-ineligible, renewable position with an initial three-year appointment at the rank of Academic Specialist. The Manager of Audio oversees all audio production activities at the Jacobs School of Music (JSoM). Most audio production at the JSoM is performed by Audio Engineering students as a requirement for their Bachelor of Science degree. In collaboration with the Audio Engineering department faculty, the Manager of Audio Operations supervises students in their audio production activities.The successful candidate will be able to work effectively with faculty colleagues and supervise and train Audio Engineering and Sound Production students.
Responsibilities include supervision of audio for JSoM events, training and management of student engineers, and audio facility support.
Supervision of audio for JSoM events includes: archival recording of student, faculty, guest, and JSoM ensembles; sound reinforcement for JSoM events; sound design for the IU Opera and Ballet Theater; recording sessions for faculty and ensembles; and providing audio support for other performance related activities. Training and management of student engineers includes: instruction in recording and sound reinforcement procedures, workflows, and facilities use; scheduling of student engineers; supervising student production assistants; and assuring the quality of recordings. Audio facility support includes assisting in maintenance and upgrades of audio facilities, including recommending equipment acquisition.

Basic Qualifications:
Three or more years' experience in audio recording and sound reinforcement for classical and jazz music. Ability to read a musical score. Experience with current digital audio console and audio over IP technology. Familiarity with Pro Tools and Wavelab. Experience with maintenance and troubleshooting of analog and digital audio equipment. Experience with administration of Windows and Macintosh computers. Experience working in a university environment. Bachelor's Degree/Advanced degree preferred; comparable professional experience will be given equal consideration.
