SHED Technical Operations Manager 8039BR Provost Student Hall for Exploration & Development
Detailed Job Description With the wide variety of spaces and anticipated diverse/robust activities planned for the SHED, the Technical Operations Manager will play an integral role in coordinating operational efficiency and support for various functions and productions within the SHED. This will include:
Facilitating seamless set-up, transitions between, and tear-down of events presented by the School of Performing Arts and other SHED stakeholder groups
Arranging stage and room setups for performing arts classes, meetings and workshops
Providing technical operations support to College of Liberal Arts School of Performing Arts, NTID Performing Arts, and other academic units sponsoring performances, productions, and events that occur, sometimes concurrently, in the SHED, including the recording studio
Assisting in managing atrium space, pop-up performances, and coordination of content on digital display devices
Providing technical expertise and/or serve as the liaison to secure technical expertise on campus for SHED-related activities, special events and performing arts events
Providing similar support and expertise for School of Performing Arts theatrical, dance, and music performances in other locations across campus
Assisting SHED Executive Director, Director of School of Performing Arts and others with scheduling and understanding the complex orchestration of activities in the SHED.
Providing recommendations, best practices, processes, and training when necessary
Achieving operational efficiency of performing arts spaces within the SHED and other SHED event locations/spaces
The Technical Operations Manager ensures all technology and equipment within the non-classroom performing arts spaces are appropriately maintained and operated for large and small-scale events as well as other academic activities on a daily basis.
This position will report directly to the SHED Executive Director and work closely with the Operations Director of the School of Performing Arts, Director of SPA, NTID Performing Arts Technical Director, the Director of the Makerspace, Information and Technology Services (ITS), Classroom Learning Technology Services, and RIT Tech Crew. This position may include supervision and training of student employees, potential additional technical personnel, and collaboration with faculty, operational staff, and technical production colleagues.
Department/College Description
Minimum Qualifications Education/Experience:
Associates Degree in performing arts, information technology, or other related field.
3 years of experience in technical theater production, concert production, or large venues production and coordination, or related experience.
Skills:
Familiarity with audio and video recording and live streaming technology/workflows and ability to operate associated systems.
Working knowledge of audio and video devices (projectors, amps, speakers, scalers, standards, protocols, wiring, etc.) including AV over IP devices
Knowledge of how to properly use fall arrest harnesses and equipment
Knowledge of safe rigging practices and procedures
Knowledge of proper entertainment industry safety procedures Ability to quickly understand and prioritize multiple, competing needs
Ability to lift more than 50lbs
Ability to work nights and weekends
Ability or willingness to learn American Sign Language
Knowledge in theater production, theatrical lighting and sound systems, maintaining safe rigging practices, etc.
Ability to establish onboarding and best practices for performing arts support staff
Skill in hiring, training, and mentoring students and part time employees
Ability to oversee contract workers, vendors, and maintenance and repairs performed within a performing arts and/or multi-purpose shared facility
