Description:
Hofstra Department of Drama and Dance is one of the largest departments in Hofstra's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. There are over 200 Drama majors and minors, and 100 Dance majors and minors in an all-undergraduate program that offers a BA degree in Drama, a BA degree in Dance, a BFA in Theatrical Production/Design, a BFA in Theater Performance, and a BFA in Dance Performance. We produce an exciting and diverse season of plays and dance concerts, directed and choreographed by faculty and professional guest artists, who are attracted to Hofstra due to our close proximity to New York City. We present productions in the historic John Cranford Adams Playhouse, a 2,100-seat proscenium theater, as well as the state-of-the-art Joan and Donald Schaeffer Black Box Theater.
Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Drama and Dance, the Managing Director will work closely with faculty and staff, to include the Director of Theater Facilities and the Assistant Dean for Budgeting and Planning, to coordinate and supervise a wide variety of administrative functions. The Managing Director will support our annual season of six mainstage productions – including the annual Hofstra Shakespeare Festival, America's longest continuously-running Shakespeare Festival – two dance concerts, and a twice-annual Student rep. Incumbent will also work with the Facilities Manager of the John Cranford Adams Playhouse.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Oversees the design of departmental web pages.
Plans and implements a marketing campaign for drama and dance productions.
Determines the graphic design and visual representation for all productions.
Prepares promotional materials for the department to serve all areas of recruitment and community outreach.
Generates and administers contracts for all performance and music rights and guest artists within the department.
Develops and supervises a new box office system for arts-related events at Hofstra, including Drama, Dance, Music and Hofstra Cultural Center events.
Provides support to the Director of Theater Facilities in the John Cranford Adams Playhouse.
Works effectively with faculty, staff, visiting artists and student crews in the support of the department's mission.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required.
Minimum five years work experience in art management.
Make a positive contribution to the department's mission of fostering a climate of inclusiveness and belonging.
Preferred Qualifications:
MFA in Theater Management or equivalent professional experience in arts administration preferred.
