The School of Drama within the College of Fine Arts at Carnegie Mellon University invites applicants for a full-time, Teaching or Tenure Track Assistant/Associate Professor of Music Theater Voice position to join our Bachelor of Fine Arts Acting/Music Theater program.

This position requires being physically based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and begins in August 2024. The base salary is $70k with negotiation based on experience and includes a full benefits package. 

The appointee will teach individual voice lessons to students in the Music Theater Program, emphasizing sustainable vocal techniques suitable to established and developing styles within the musical theater canon and new work. This appointee will also participate in a collaborative weekly department-wide studio class. Additional course offerings based on the appointee's experience and expertise will be determined.

In addition to teaching, it is expected that the appointee will engage in other duties such as:

• Mentoring, coaching, and advising students and School of Drama productions 

• Administrative service including School, College, and/or University-level committees 

• Engaging in the life and events of the school

• Maintaining and advancing professional practices

Candidates should have a terminal degree in musical theater, vocal performance, vocal pedagogy, and/ or equivalent professional experience, demonstrating a strong commitment to teaching excellence.

The ideal candidate will have three years of teaching experience in a higher education setting or equivalent experience leading workshops, master classes, or residencies with university-level students.

Active practice in the professional world is essential. We seek individuals who can apply their professional practice experience to their teaching. Additional expertise or experience in other areas such as acting a song, music direction, music theory, vocal styles, etc. is encouraged.
