The Assistant Director for Media Preservation administers the Libraries' motion picture film, video, and sound recording preservation program. They implement preservation strategies, develop procedures and policies for the long-term care of moving images and sound materials, and initiate and coordinate grant-funded media preservation projects. They collaborate with NYU Division of Libraries staff in the following departments: Special Collections, Archival Collections Management, Digital Library Technology Services, Avery Fisher Center for Music and Media, and NYU-TV & the Television Center. They hire, train, and supervise full-time and part-time staff to support these activities. *This position is fully onsite with some flexibility*

Required Education:
Master's Degree Master's degree with a preferred specialization in audio and moving image preservation, information science, or related discipline, plus experience in audio and moving image preservation and reformatting technologies.

Required Experience:
5+ years Minimum of three years of professional experience administering a moving image or sound preservation program. Five years experience: implementing nationally recognized guidelines for conserving and preserving motion picture film, video, and audio recordings.; implementing guidelines for reformatting, handling, housing, and use of motion picture film, video, and audio recordings; developing, designing, and carrying out collection assessments of motion picture film, video, and audio recordings;

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of preservation strategies and standards for the care, handling, storage, and reformatting of audio, video, and motion picture film materials.Understanding of media production history and technology. Proficiency in preservation/technical metadata standards and a strong foundation in digital preservation. Ability to collaborate with colleagues across the Division of Libraries and work effectively in team environments. Demonstrate strong project management and problem-solving skills. Familiarity with rights management and intellectual property issues related to film, audio, and video collections

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Preferred candidates will also have knowledge of and experience with audio and video playback equipment and be familiar with the application ArchivesSpace.

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $84,000.00 to USD $104,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
