Teach courses in Scene Design, Scene Painting, Drafting, Décor History, and related subjects. Supervise and mentor student scene designers, scenic artists, and props artisans, and design an average of two mainstage productions per academic year. Oversee and help to execute the painting of scenery for all mainstage shows. Advise Theatre Studies students and help to promote our DEI goals, such as recruiting and retaining students from underrepresented and historically marginalized groups.
MFA in Scene Design OR Bachelor's degree in a closely related field and equivalent professional scene design experience of at least three years.
At least one year of teaching experience at the university level.
The ability to teach courses in Scene Design, Scene Painting, Rendering, Décor History, manual and CAD drafting, and Photoshop.
Demonstrated ability to design scenery for plays and musicals of varying sizes and styles.
Demonstrated competence in scenic painting.
The ability to mentor and supervisor student scene designers and scenic artists.
Evidence of experience in and/or commitment to working with students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles, and/or first-generation, BIPOC, queer-identifying and/or disabled university/college students.
Three years of teaching experience at the university level.
Professional affiliations (USA, USITT, etc.).
Essential Functions and percent of time::
40% – Teaching classes, advising Theatre Studies students, and supervising students in Theatre Design and Technology 40% – Designing scenery and overseeing scenic painting for School of Fine and Performing Arts Theatre productions 10% – Helping to meet the University's strategic goal of promoting inclusive excellence (such as diversifying the curriculum and recruiting and retaining a more diverse student body). 10% – Service for the department, college, and university
Position is for one year and is renewable. Special contract terms and conditions of employment apply.
