Job Title: Production Technician
Department: Artistic Operations
Reports to: Production Manager
Classification: Hourly/Non-Exempt
Location: Sarasota, FL
General Overview: Under the direction of the Production Manager, assist in the overall production of Sarasota Orchestra and Youth Orchestra events, Sarasota Music Festival, Summer Music Camp, Friedman Symphony Center rentals, and other functions as needed.
Responsibilities:
Assist in the execution of set ups for orchestra services and youth orchestra in all performance venues
Assist in stage changes during concerts and rehearsals
Oversee and assist loading orchestra equipment and transport to concert sites
Drive 26’ Box truck and Sprinter van to-and-from venues/events
Assist Technical Director with set-up and tear down of concert recording equipment
Operate light board and/or audio console for small and medium shows/events
Operate audio and video equipment during concerts and rehearsals including live audio mixing, recording, video playback and projection
Provide set up and technical support for rentals and other facilities-related events
Perform routine maintenance on orchestra support equipment
Assist in the maintenance of the sound system, lighting system, lighting fixtures and other technical components
Adhere to departmental and area safety policies and procedures
Perform other relevant duties and additional projects as assigned. Duties and responsibilities described herein are not a comprehensive list, and additional job tasks may be assigned from time to time as necessitated by the Production department and business needs.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in Music, Theater or related discipline preferred
1+ years experience in a stage environment
Experience with DAW and audio editing software
Ability to push, pull or lift (overhead) 50+ lbs.
Ability to operate technical equipment and troubleshoot technical problems
Ability to stand, sit or walk for extended periods up to 4 hours
Ability to operate mechanical equipment including hand held power devices, table mounted power tools and Genie lift
Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline driven environment while maintaining a calm, professional demeanor
Willingness to work long hours, including nights and weekends with no set days off
Ability to work in a variety of outdoor weather conditions including cold, rain and extreme heat
Ability to maintain positive relationships with conductors, musicians, staff, volunteers, and outside organizations
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Valid Driver’s license
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, sit, stand, walk, bend, crouch, push, pull, lift, grasp, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The worker is required to have visual acuity to operate a motor vehicle, view a computer terminal, and determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of work assigned. This position requires the ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50+ pounds and lift a 100-pound harp.
Working Conditions:
The job operates in a professional office environment. The environment is generally moderate in temperature and noise level. The worker is required to function in narrow aisles or passageways. The worker is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions, including extreme heat.
