Fredonia is in the midst of a transformation, with a focus on self-examination and reimagination. We seek a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Music, specializing in music education, who will join a dynamic, collaborative, and collegial team of music educators with extensive backgrounds in learning, making, and teaching music within and beyond ensemble-based choral and instrumental music settings. We are committed to expanding the boundaries of music education through welcoming a colleague who can help us not only innovate within existing contexts but also envision and enact new practices by leading critical dialogue and thoughtful engagement with stakeholders within and beyond the area and school. This person will help us navigate the shifting landscape of higher education by generating change, taking risks, inventing new opportunities, and exploring new ideas and approaches. They will contribute to curricular revisions to enact equitable approaches to music education that address well-documented disparities and that promote opportunities for all persons to engage in, around, and through music in ways they find meaningful.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Dean of the School of Music, the successful candidate will:
- Teach undergraduate and graduate coursework in music education that reflects the expertise of the candidate and the needs of the department;
- Develop and/or expand a national and international scholarly profile;
- Collaborate in the evolution of music education curriculum and course development to reflect diverse and contemporary theory and practice including online coursework for graduate students;
- Support student retention and success through academic advising and efforts toward inclusion and belonging;
- Participate in building and maintaining relationships with undergraduate and graduate students through recruitment and alumni relations;
- Maintain and build relationships with schools and community partners in the area and across the state;
- Participate in committees and provide service to the Music Education area, School of Music, university, and profession; and
- Be aware of, understand, and follow all university policies.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Enthusiasm for developing and maintaining collegial, effective relationships with students, faculty, and staff within and beyond the School of Music;
- Agenda for future publication and/or creative activity demonstrating knowledge of the field;
- Ability to bring unique perspectives and values to the Music Education area, School of Music, university, and profession.
This is a full-time, tenure track position beginning Fall 2024 with a salary range of $50,000-$54,000, commensurate with experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Terminal degree in music education or related discipline (e.g., Curriculum and Instruction). ABD candidates should have an expected graduation date within one year after the start date of the position;
- Three years minimum of PK-12 teaching experience;
- Innovative and creative approaches to music making, pedagogy, and leadership that prepare pre-service music teachers to demonstrate the skills and knowledge articulated in New York State Department of Education's Arts Learning Standards;
- Experience teaching in music teaching and learning collegiate settings;
- Commitment and ability to work with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and constituents in support of campus and department missions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated engagement with research frameworks and/or pedagogical practices that advance music education practice toward diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and accessibility and can inform course offerings across our curriculum. Examples include, but are not limited to, arts-based research, carceral studies, critical pedagogy, disability studies, gender or sexuality studies, anti-bias pedagogy, and trauma-informed teaching;
- Experience with and/or interest in academic leadership at the music education area level;
- Demonstrated experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate student researchers;
- Advanced abilities making and teaching music outside of Western ensemble-based musicking practices (e.g., hip-hop music, culture, and/or pedagogies);
- Evidence of experience engaging with current dialogues in the profession (e.g., social-emotional learning, teacher evaluation, teacher shortages, supporting refugee populations);
- Record of professional publication and presentation demonstrating knowledge of the field and potential for further productivity.
